Tweak of the week
Tweak #28 - march 27, 2002
When one of your explorer windows crashes, all of explorer has to be restarted. Windows does this automatically, but it can have some undesired effects. For example icons in the system tray (left of the clock in the taskbar) might disappear.
This tweak instructs windows to start a separate process that holds the desktop and the taskbar.
This Windows setting seems to be a bit buggy. See Knwledge Base article Q010502.
Go to the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
Look for the following value:
DesktopProcess
If it doesn't exist, create it as a REG_DWORD value.
Set the value to 1.
