Tweak #23 - januari 30, 2002

When Windows NT, 2000 or XP accesses a directory on an NTFS volume, it updates the LastAccess time stamp on each directory it detects. Therefore, if there are a large number of directories, this can affect performance.

This tweak disables this time stamp update.

The tweak

Go to the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem

Look for the following value:

NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate

If it doesn't exist, create it as a REG_DWORD value.

Set this value to 1.
